The Beauty of Arab Women
At the Cultural Centre of Cacak, Professor Dijana Markovic gave a lecture on the beauty of Arab women, taking the audience into a world where the secret of beauty passes from mother to daughter, following a lineage of femininity and the rhythms of nature.
A cycle of three lectures
During a cycle of three lectures at the Belgrade City Library, Professor Dijana Markovic took the Belgrade audience on a unique journey through the richness of Arab culture and the Orient. Through the untold stories of the Arab world, the position of women in Arab societies and the secrets of Oriental allure, the lectures opened the doors of an ancient civilisation, its tradition, beauty and mystique.
The audience left every meeting inspired, enriched with new knowledge and strong impressions, carrying away a piece of the magic of the Orient and the wish to return to it. The cycle drew great interest and presented the Arab world in an authentic, educational and inspiring way.
The show Jedan dobar dan
Appearing on RTS in the show Jedan dobar dan, Professor Dijana Markovic spoke about the Arab world with particular reference to Lebanon, and about the wider influence of Arab and Oriental heritage in our cultural space.
Morning programme
Appearing on the morning programme of Studio B television, Professor Dijana Markovic spoke about the Arab world, its language and culture, and about its ties to and presence in the wider cultural and historical context of our region. Particular emphasis was placed on the value of cultural exchange, on understanding traditions and on bringing Arab culture closer to local audiences through an educational and contemporary approach.
International conference on Quranic studies
Dijana Markovic took part in the conference of the International Quranic Studies Association (IQSA), held at the University of Vienna, which brings together some of the world’s most eminent professors, Islamologists, Arabists and Orientalists in the field of Quranic and Islamic studies.
Her participation was given particular significance by meeting and working with Professor Emran El-Badawi, one of the leading contemporary researchers in Quranic and Islamic studies, whose academic work spans university research, numerous books and scholarly publications.
The conference covered an exceptionally wide range of subjects, from pre-Islamic Arabia and the historical context in which Islam emerged, through Quranic studies and hermeneutics, to questions of Islamic law, theological interpretation, contemporary research into the role of women in the Islamic world, and new methodological approaches in the humanities.
Taking part in this international gathering was a significant professional and academic experience for Dijana Markovic, as a professor of Arabic language, literature and culture and as a researcher whose work engages with the Arab world, its language, culture, history and contemporary social phenomena. A special place in her work belongs to connecting academic knowledge with a wider cultural context and bringing the Arab and Islamic world closer to audiences in the Balkans.
International Book Fair
At one of the most significant literary and publishing events in the Middle East, Dijana Markovic presented her book Arapski poslovni bonton (Arab Business Etiquette).
During the fair she met publishers, authors and representatives of cultural institutions, with conversations about opportunities for international cooperation.
Guest lecture at the Balkan Youth School and the “Svetionik” Association
As part of the Balkan Youth School and the “Svetionik” Association in Novi Pazar, Dijana Marković, professor and master philologist of Arabic language and literature, gave a lecture to a large audience of students and young people together with Dr Jasmin Hodžić, Director of the Institute for Languages in Sarajevo. Through discussion and an exchange of experiences, the talk covered the importance of the Arabic language, intercultural communication, and the influence of Arabic loanwords on our region.
